A.M.S. Tugs & Barges Acquisition of Brand New 16m 1200bhp DAMEN Stan Tug 1606

A.M.S. ORION

Australia Marine Services Pty Ltd (A.M.S. Tugs & Barges) fleet of vessels will increase once again with the recent acquisition of a Brand New 16m 1200bhp DAMEN Stan Tug 1606 from DAMEN Shipyards in The Netherlands.

Mr. Alan Yeo, Managing Director of A.M.S. Tugs & Barges, penned the purchase contract with DAMEN Shipyards Representative, Mr. Roland Briene, in Perth, Western Australia recently after the inspection of similar sister vessels. Renowned for their high standards in build quality and proven vessel designs, this Damen built vessel will be a worthy addition to the current fleet.

Aptly named “A.M.S. ORION”, A.M.S. Tugs & Barges trusts that this DAMEN tug will set a higher standard for all working tugboats in Australia; with her trustworthy performance and proven capabilities in Australian waters. This vessel will be of good assistance towards the Australian offshore industry that is evidently ramping up for 2011. 

The A.M.S. ORION has several notable additions in comparison to other committed units in Australia – a 5 year International Paint (IP) Paint Specification Warranty, 2 x coupling winches on deck, Heila HLM 3-2S Deck Crane capable of 0.5T@6.9m, shower facilities and detachable hand rails for the bow platform (above the push bow) to carry out crew transfer ops. The tug is capable of 16~16.4T Bollard Pull and a top speed of 11.1 knots.

A.M.S. ORION will be one of the very first tugboats to join A.M.S. Tugs & Barges’ exclusive fleet in the year 2011; expecting her delivery into Dampier, Western Australia by end of February 2011.
